LK GOVERNMENT DAY

Written by: Hope Graves

Leadership Kearney Class #32 headed to Lincoln on March 5th for State Government Day. We started out by voting for next year’s chair positions on the bus. Hope Graves and Kylee Vreugdenhill will be serving as the adult chair and co-chair, Gregory Christen and McKenna O’Rourke will be serving as the youth chair and co-chair, and Regen Lux will be serving as the Alumni chair.

We started our time in Lincoln at the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency with a presentation from Ervin Provis and Major General Daryl Bohac. We then moved on to the Nebraska State Penitentiary where we received a tour and had the opportunity to ask questions and speak with a current inmate about his experiences. Next we headed to the Nebraska State Patrol headquarters where we had lunch, a tour, and visited with Superintendent Colonel John Bolduc.

Lastly, our group headed to the state capital where we met with Senator John Lowe and then received a tour. We wrapped up our day with the opportunity to meet with Governor Jim Pillen as he spoke to us about some of his goals for the State of Nebraska.
